The term 'Peak flow' as it applies to the area of water can be defined as 'the maximum instantaneous discharge of a stream or river at a given location. It usually occurs at or near the time of maximum stage'.

The term 'Peak flow' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' Maximum instantaneous flow in a specified period of time'.
